Want an exit plan for your business?

While most people don’t go into business thinking about when they might sell, many do have an expectation that when they’re ready to move on that they will be able to sell for financial gain. However, even some very profitable businesses don’t sell. And particularly so if the sale is rushed, as in the case of illness or the need to retire earlier than expected.

Ideally, it’s best to plan for your exit from the very beginning if you to achieve a nest egg, rather than closing and getting what you can for the plant and stock. And as for the value of goodwill, this rarely exists nowadays.

Whether you’ve started planning for your exit, or not, we can help you to establish a framework of what’s needed to achieve the best result in the desired timeframe. We’ll then sit with you to fill in the blanks by asking questions and documenting the detail the new owner will want and need to feel confident to purchase your business.

Case Study

Business Exit Plan

After 20+ years and with all goals ticked off the sole owner was seeking a new challenge.

From our initial discussion it became clear that as well as being a highly profitable business there was a great team of external contractors providing accounting, legal, HR and IT services. The business also had some valuable long term employees and a good reputation in its industry. What was missing however was documentation detailing all of this information They enlisted our help.

We started with a fairly full on Post It note session and from this identified what needed to be done before the business was listed for sale. Knowing this provided the energy and motivation to get the job done.

I have really enjoyed working with you over the past few years. Thank you for your advice and your willingness to work with me to adapt and change as we have.”
