7 years self employed today. Thanks to the great people I get to work with, you make it enjoyable every day. Feeling happy.
A test of our resilience
If you were told you had 10 minutes to leave your home and wouldn’t be able to return for 48 hours, how would you cope?
This happened to us. Within 8 ½ minutes we were evacuating with our technology and personal effects. A brisk walk to our temporary accommodation and within half hour of receiving the news we had our business up and running. And with the forethought to grab a great Barossa red on the way out, we calmed our nerves, frayed by the sudden upheaval.
This was a very real test of our Business Continuity Plan, developed 6 years ago after attending a WREMO session on learnings from the Christchurch earthquakes. We have now reviewed and updated our plan and we’re even more prepared for next time!
Remember it might not necessarily be a natural disaster, it could be an infrastructure failure that occurs.

A Body Corporate website; upping the ante with a swish new look
Being one of the first in their industry to have a website this client was so happy with how successful it had been they got us back 6 years later to create a brand new look for them.
This time they wanted the site to be very ‘visual’, with the aim of encouraging users to fully engage with it as their primary source of information. It needed to be easy to navigate and enjoyable to use.
As a mixed use complex with a varied group of stakeholders the challenge was to create a site that brought together a wide range of information and present it in a way that would convey the necessary messages, while at the same time building a sense of community.
Our client is super pleased with the result and the great feedback they’re getting. Check it out for yourself.
Catch the drip before it catches you
Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one.
Our client needed to convey technical information to their members in way that it could be easily understood by all, ensuring they were able to complete the require checks accurately and in a timely manner. A video was the perfect solution.
We're all masked up...are you?
Lowering our carbon footprint is important to us, and that means taking public transport when we can. Thanks to the lovely Vladka, who kindly made our masks, we can now travel in style in these Covid times. Keeping our community, and ourselves, safe.
Camera Base: A job well done!
Proud to have been part of this great initiative serving the Wellington community for the past 7+ years. First as foundation volunteers and then contracted as coordinators. Working with a team of highly engaged and dedicated volunteers who gave their time selflessly was an absolute highlight for us. As they say in the Police, we are now 10/0 .
Celebrating 20 years in business.
Being in business today can be a bit of a roller coaster ride but it’s also incredibly rewarding and there’s so much fun and happiness along the way.
Agile working during Covid-19 lockdown
Putting our DIY skills to the test and utilising whatever we could find, a stand-up desk was built last night allowing us to work remotely from the sunny Kapiti Coast. #lovekiwiingenuity. Stay safe everyone.
Better Impact Conference Melbourne, March 2020
A great conference learning more about the Better Impact volunteer rostering software and how it can be utilised in providing solutions for managing not for profit personnel. Really enjoyed meeting other volunteer coordinators from New Zealand and Australia who happily and generously shared their experience and knowledge.
Camera Base: 7 years old today!
On this day back in 2012 there was no great fanfare, it was straight to business on the night Wellington hosted the premiere of The Hobbit. In classic New Zealand ‘she’ll be right’ style volunteers were called for, no experience necessary, and training was limited to “you’ll pick it up as you go along”. That first shift was pretty scary knowing the safety of international celebs was in our hands. But it was also fun, especially having a bird’s eye view of the stars!
The Camera Base now has 46 carefully selected and well-trained volunteers. We are very proud of the training and mentoring given to the volunteers before they go solo, and also of the ongoing learning opportunities provided such as; Imagery Analysis, Gang Awareness, Police 101 and Multiple Screen Usability. But the real stars are mostly definitely the volunteers, collectively contributing 403 hours of monitoring time per month for the Police.
